The newer Owens Cross Roads and Hampton Cove-adjacent two-story is a matching job. First-floor hardwood is already down. The stair is still builder carpet, painted risers, and a skinny rail that does not belong with the plank. Rocket City Stairs keeps a sound stringer and converts the walking surface to solid wood treads and risers — usually oak — then recuts skirt boards so the run meets the foyer. The rail is often in the same visit: square newels, a wood handrail, and wood or matte black metal balusters. That pairing is one interior, not a fabricator stacked on after the oak goes in.
Older in-town Owens Cross Roads houses are closer to what we see in Gurley and on the mountain side of 35811. Shorter flights. Worn original wood gone gray at the nosing. A wall rail and turned spindles. Plaster that is not always square. We recut or replace treads and cut skirt boards to the wall so the hall does not look like two decades met at the nosing. A remodel is the better quote when the guard also has to change. A full custom install is uncommon unless an addition opened a hole the old stair cannot fill.
This is still interior hardwood, even though the mountain and the cove sit next door. We do not quote outdoor steel, deck stairs, or commercial metal toward Hampton Cove or the bluff. Searches for metal stairs in this pocket of the county land on a welding shop. If you need oak that matches the hall, that is us. If you need a welded exterior run, that is not us. We will tell you which it is at the house.
Gurley is east on this same Madison County loop. Huntsville neighborhoods — Hampton Cove, Jones Valley, Monte Sano — sit west and north. Say Owens Cross Roads on the form so the visit is scheduled on the 431 side, not folded into a Twickenham morning. There is no public shop address. Josh Templet comes to the house with a tape and a free written estimate. Licensed and fully insured. Containment is advanced and virtually dustless because these houses are lived in.
Color matching follows the floor that is actually down. Cove-adjacent builder plank is a different sample than older in-town strip oak. We stain on your boards under your light. Open sides on a two-story foyer need a full guard; a closed ranch flight may only need a wall rail. Rise count, species, framing under the carpet, and rail scope change the written estimate. This page does not publish prices.
Stair parts — treads, handrails, newels, balusters, risers, skirts — are available with or without installation. Most Owens Cross Roads homeowners want the install included so the cap and the nosing are one crew. The visit starts with the opening, the stringer, and the floor the nosing has to meet. Then you get a written estimate before a tread is cut. Call (256) 665-2161.
Hampton Cove is the neighboring Huntsville community most people name when they are between the cove and the 431 corridor. The stair problem is the same leftover builder run; the mailbox name is what we need on the form so the drive is scheduled on the southeast loop with Gurley, not as a Jones Valley add-on. Monte Sano is a different Huntsville problem — tighter wells and plaster — and we treat it on the Huntsville page. Owens Cross Roads gets its own measure.

Stairs in Owens Cross Roads
Owens Cross Roads mixes Hampton Cove-adjacent two-story foyers with leftover builder carpet and older in-town houses with a shorter worn-oak flight. A carpet-to-hardwood makeover is the usual quote when the stringer is sound. Gurley is east on this Madison County loop; Huntsville and Hampton Cove sit west. Interior hardwood only — no outdoor steel. Call (256) 665-2161.

Interior staircase railings in Owens Cross Roads
Owens Cross Roads and Hampton Cove-adjacent two-story homes often want an oak cap with matte black metal balusters after the foyer hardwood is in. Older in-town houses more often need a plumb newel against a wall that is out of square. We quote both as interior millwork. Gurley is the next stop east. We do not do outdoor steel toward the mountain.

Custom staircase installs in Owens Cross Roads
When an Owens Cross Roads addition or a ruined layout needs a new interior stair, we build it as millwork: solid hardwood treads, skirt boards cut to the wall, and a wood or mixed rail finished to the floor it meets. If the existing stringer is sound, a makeover is usually enough. We do not fabricate outdoor steel toward Hampton Cove.
