Carpeted stairs hide sound stringers and a layout that already works. We pull the carpet and pad, inspect the framing, and install solid wood treads and risers. Skirt boards get recut to the wall. Transitions at the top and bottom are color-matched to the adjoining hardwood so the makeover does not stop at the nosing.
Worn existing treads are the other makeover: sand through the gray, recut a clean nose where the old profile is gone, and stain on the actual wood under your light. That is interior carpentry and finishing — not a welded rail package from a metal shop.
Wood newels and handrails, or matte black metal balusters with an oak rail, are part of the same quote when the makeover includes the guard. You do not have to coordinate two contractors for one staircase.
Need a deeper remodel — rails, newels, a different baluster layout — or a new custom install? Those are separate pages because the work is different. The estimate still starts with a measure at your house.
